The Pentagon report that says physics is “seriously infested with time machines”

This is not a separate document. It is a specific section inside Traversable Wormholes, Stargates, and Negative Energy, DIA-08-1004-004, dated April 6, 2010, one of 38 Defense Intelligence Reference Documents funded under the Pentagon’s AAWSAP program. This page exists because one specific claim inside that report, that time travel is a mathematical necessity of the same physics that permits wormholes, circulates far less than the wormhole material itself despite being the more unsettling claim.

The report states plainly that constructing a time machine is straightforward once a traversable wormhole exists. It goes further than describing a mere possibility. Its own language states that classical general relativity theory is seriously infested with time machines, and that the theory both allows for and demands time travel in order to preserve self-consistency of dynamic spacetime solutions for just about every problem ever studied.

That second clause is the part worth sitting with. The report is not saying time travel might be possible under contrived conditions. It is saying the equations that already describe gravity, the same equations used to calculate satellite orbits and GPS corrections today, do not fully resolve without allowing for closed timelike curves. The infestation, in the report’s own word choice, is not exotic. It is structural.

This establishes that a Pentagon-funded physics assessment, produced by a credentialed physicist under a real DIA contract, states in its own unclassified language that general relativity mathematically requires the existence of time-travel solutions to remain internally consistent. This is the report’s own technical position, not a reporter’s paraphrase or a fringe interpretation.

What this does not establish is that a time machine has been built, that closed timelike curves have been observed, or that any government program has moved beyond the same theoretical stage general relativity has occupied on this question since long before this report was written. The report describes a known, decades-old open problem in theoretical physics. What is new is a Pentagon-funded document restating it this plainly, in this much unclassified detail, for an audience of one government contractor.
