Cool as heck content, thanks for opening my mind up to this level of potential science. It would make sense if this all ends up true.

Amazing insight, thanks.

Woah, that is super interesting. Especially interesting they are still fighting to keep things classified after 40-50 years.

This actually happened? Pretty impressive

Typically I'm used to seeing news stories about tech from this year, 1964 is an interesting change of pace.

The “Real court documents, not a rant.” is the perfect closer and I applaud the inclusion...solid gold.

FBI / U.S. Department of Justice2018 to 2021Unsealed court filings, DOJ press release
PUBLIC RECORD

Operation Trojan Shield: full transcription

Operation Trojan ShieldTranscriptionANOMFBI
The following is a direct transcription of key passages from unsealed DOJ court filings and the Department of Justice's official press statement on Operation Trojan Shield.

// Why This Isn’t An Outlier

ANOM wasn’t a one-time trick. It’s the same institutional habit the record shows repeating for eighty years.

Build the capability quietly. Use it at a scale the public never approved. Account for it only once a court forces the paperwork into daylight. The Classified Record traces that exact pattern from a 1946 screening memo to the 3.4 million warrantless searches the FBI ran in a single year, using the government’s own documents, not speculation.

The FBI opened a new covert investigation, Operation Trojan Shield, which centered on exploiting Anom by inserting it into criminal networks and working with international partners, including the Australian Federal Police, to monitor the communications.

Agencies worked with the source to build a master key into the existing encryption system which surreptitiously attaches to each message and enables law enforcement to decrypt and store the message as it is transmitted. A user of Anom is unaware of this capability.

The FBI developed and operated an encrypted device company called Anom, which grew to service more than 12,000 encrypted devices to over 300 criminal syndicates operating in more than 100 countries, including Italian organized crime, Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, and various international drug trafficking organizations.

Agents catalogued more than 27 million messages between users around the world who had their criminal discussions reviewed, recorded, and translated by the FBI, until the platform was taken down. The operation resulted in 800 arrests and seizures of more than 8 tons of cocaine, 22 tons of marijuana, 2 tons of methamphetamine and amphetamine, six tons of precursor chemicals, 250 firearms, and more than $48 million in various worldwide currencies.

This transcription covers the operation's origin, its technical decryption mechanism, its confirmed scale, and its final results as stated in the Department of Justice's own official announcement. The full unsealed affidavit contains substantially more detail on the operation's international coordination.

Case: Operation Trojan Shield / ANOM, FBI. Concluded June 8, 2021.
