Warp Drive, Dark Energy, and the Manipulation of Extra Dimensions is a 34-page Defense Intelligence Reference Document dated April 2, 2010, marked For Official Use Only. It was produced under the same DIA Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications (AAWSA) Program contract that produced the Traversable Wormholes report, part of a batch of 38 titles the DIA later confirmed to Congress. It is credited to physicist Richard Obousy, at the time director of the nonprofit propulsion research group Icarus Interstellar, whose academic work on the Casimir effect and extra-dimensional physics forms the technical backbone of the report. The document was obtained and published in full by KLAS-TV, the Las Vegas television station whose investigative unit broke much of the original AATIP reporting.

The report frames its subject as one of two known theoretical loopholes to Einstein's light-speed limit, the other being the traversable wormhole covered elsewhere in the AAWSAP report series. Both, the report states, involve manipulation of spacetime itself in some exotic way that allows for faster-than-light travel. Where the wormhole report focuses on connecting two distant points through a shortcut, this report focuses on the Alcubierre warp metric, a solution to Einstein's field equations that would move a spacecraft by contracting spacetime in front of it and expanding spacetime behind it, rather than moving the craft through spacetime at all.

The report's most quoted line makes the underlying premise explicit: the idea that a sufficiently advanced technology may interact with, and acquire direct control over, the higher dimensions is a tantalizing possibility, and one that is most certainly worthy of deeper investigation. Control of this higher dimensional space may be a source of technological control over the dark energy density and could ultimately play a role in the development of exotic propulsion technologies; specifically, a warp drive.

The report grounds its speculation in mainstream theoretical physics rather than invented material. It cites the Higgs field, then a genuinely open question at the time of writing (the Higgs boson was not experimentally confirmed until 2012), the observed accelerating expansion of the universe attributed to dark energy, and string theory's proposal that the universe may contain as many as seven additional compactified spatial dimensions beyond the four of ordinary spacetime, arranged in a geometric structure called a Calabi-Yau manifold. The report's technical core explores whether the Casimir effect, a measurable quantum force between closely spaced plates, could in principle be produced by the geometry of a compactified extra dimension itself, and whether manipulating that geometry could extract usable energy or propulsive effect.

This document establishes that the Defense Intelligence Agency formally funded and archived a technical assessment treating the number and geometry of spatial dimensions in the universe as a potential engineering target, one whose control could theoretically be leveraged for propulsion. This is confirmed by the DIA's own report, obtained and published in full by a television investigative unit and subsequently corroborated by the DIA's own 2019 FOIA release confirming the title as part of its 38-document AAWSAP series.

What it does not establish is that any such control has been achieved, that a warp drive has been built, or that the theoretical physics discussed (itself grounded in real, peer-reviewed academic work by the report's author) has moved beyond the stage of speculative literature review. The report's own language, worthy of deeper investigation, frames this as an open research question, not a disclosed capability.
