There is apparently classified research ongoing in Soviet cybernetics. One area that surveillance would appear fruitful is Soviet research in the area of artificial intelligence.
In 1975 the Soviet Academy of Sciences hosted a major International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, and US analysts took note. A 1978 intelligence overview on Soviet Psychology, declassified via CIA FOIA, reported that the conference emphasized related topics.
This transcription covers the 1964 report's central finding and the related recommendation to prioritize surveillance of Soviet AI research, alongside evidence the concern continued through the following decade. The full CIA FOIA collection includes substantially more material tracking Soviet computing and AI research across the entire Cold War period.
